Buying T-Mobile for Business: direct vs reseller vs advisor

When you buy T-Mobile for Business (or AT&T, or Verizon — the structure is the same everywhere), you have three doors in: the carrier direct, a reseller or agent of that one carrier, or an independent advisor who works with all of them. Knowing the difference saves you from learning it mid-contract.
Buying direct means the carrier's own store, website, or business sales rep. You get the full menu of one carrier — and only that carrier. The rep's job is to sell you T-Mobile, so you'll never hear that Verizon covers your warehouse better or that a competitor is running a better promotion this quarter.
A reseller or authorized agent is contracted to sell one carrier's plans. They're often more responsive than a 1-800 number and know the carrier's systems well, but they're still single-carrier: their recommendation can't leave the building they work for.
An independent advisor (that's what TSI is) represents the buyer, not one carrier. Here's the part that surprises people: advisors are typically paid a commission by the carriers themselves, so you pay the same rate you'd pay going direct. The carrier pays the referral fee out of its marketing budget — it isn't added to your bill.
What a good advisor actually does: checks coverage maps against your real locations (including the spots where drivers actually go), compares promotions across carriers — which change monthly and are rarely advertised side by side — and manages the port of your numbers so nothing breaks. After the sale, they're also your escalation path when billing goes sideways, instead of sitting in a general support queue.
The questions to ask anyone selling you mobile service: Are you tied to one carrier? Who do I call when there's a problem in month 8? What happens to my pricing at the end of the promo? The answers tell you whose side they're on.
If you're already comparing carriers, an advisor compresses weeks of research into one conversation — coverage, pricing, and promos across all of them, at no cost to you. That's the whole model.
