How to compare business internet providers (the 6-step process)

Comparing business internet providers is confusing by design — every carrier advertises the promo price and buries the rest. This six-step process cuts through it, and it's the same one we use internally.
Step 1: find out what's actually at your address. Not the coverage map — the actual serviceable technologies at your suite number. A business can have six carriers one block over and two at their building. This step eliminates half your options before you start.
Step 2: separate the technology tiers. Dedicated fiber with an SLA, shared fiber, cable broadband, and 5G fixed wireless are different products at different prices. Compare within a tier first — a $400 DIA quote isn't 'more expensive' than $120 cable; it's a different guarantee.
Step 3: price month 25, not month 1. Ask every carrier for the standard rate after the promo ends, plus equipment rental, static IP fees, and any broadcast or regulatory fees. Then compare the all-in totals. The cheapest teaser rate is frequently the most expensive second year.
Step 4: read the exit terms before the entry price. Early termination fees typically run 50–100% of remaining contract value, some contracts auto-renew for another full term, and many require 30–90 days' written notice to cancel. Know the door out before you walk in.
Step 5: ask about installation and construction in writing. Cable installs are usually cheap; fiber construction to your building can cost thousands and take 60–120 days. If a carrier needs construction, get the cost and timeline in the quote — and ask about construction waivers, which are often negotiable.
Step 6: make them compete. Two written quotes are worth more than an hour of negotiating — carriers match competitor pricing routinely. Bring the better quote to the carrier you actually want and ask them to beat it.
Steps 1 through 6 are exactly what a TSI advisor does for free: check availability at your address, pull competing quotes across carriers, decode the fees and contract terms, and manage the install and number porting. You make the final call; we do the legwork.
